Recreation
This area
offers every variety of sport - tennis, swimming, skin-diving,
fishing, golf, or you can just take it easy. There are countless
attractions within easy driving distance for weekend pleasure. To
list only a few - Lion Country Safari the only attraction of its
kind in the United States. You drive through miles of African veldt
in your own car where the lions roam free. No animal at this
attraction is caged, and it is a rare sight to observe the animals
in their natural habitat. And then there are wonderful Florida keys,
where you actually drive over the ocean with breathtaking view of
both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean at the same
time. Key West is historically fascinating and a source of much
enjoyment.
The native cookery is strictly of the gourmet variety and a must on
a visit there. The John Pennekamp State Coral Reef Park can be
visited on the same trip. There are glass bottomed boats making
trips over the only living coral reef known in this hemisphere.
Miami abounds with attractions such as the Seaquarium and parrot
jungle. The roads into the Everglades Swamp will take you to real
Seminole Indian Villages, where the natives live just as most of
there ancestors did. Most of the major leagues baseball teams train
in south Florida, too, if that strikes your fancy. There are
countless other sporting events all year round. During the winter
season, in fact beginning in the fall lasting well into spring,
there are horse races, dog races and jai alai frontons, and betting
is legal in Florida at these attractions. If the islands lure you, a
round trip airline ticket to the Bahamas is inexpensive and is a
very short hop from here. And of course, Disney World and Epcot
Center! Just south of Orlando, about 140 miles from here -you'll
want to see everything, so plan a weekend trip to this fabulous
attraction. Students can plan a weekend there and arrive by dark on
Friday and enjoy an all day Saturday and Sunday visit before
returning in time for classes on Monday.
